Steel Seawalls

Steel seawalls have become a popular choice for protecting waterfront properties from the damaging effects of erosion. These barriers consist of large steel pilings that are driven into the ground along the shoreline to create a solid barrier against incoming waves and tides. These pilings come in 8, 7, and 5 gauge iron thickness as well as galvanized. Steel seawalls are known for their durability and strength, making them a dependable solution for shoreline defense.

Steel seawalls are installed into the lake or riverbed to depths that match the height of the wall, providing stability and support. The piling used in the construction of these seawalls is custom-cut to order, with lengths of up to 24 feet. In order to reinforce and secure the seawall, it is capped with 4/4 angle iron that is welded to each sheet face.

To further anchor the seawall, a steel piling dead man system is installed. This system consists of three rods tied from the dead man sheets out to the wall face and welded to the cap, ensuring that the seawall remains firmly in place. The backfill for the seawall is comprised of washed stone, with a layer of topsoil separated by filter fabric. This design helps to relieve the steel wall from hydraulic pressure due to moister buildup and winter expansion. Additionally, any water that accumulates behind the seawall is able to run through the wall down to the lake level, preventing potential damage to the structure.

Natural Looking Shorelines

Stone seawalls are a popular choice for protecting shorelines from erosion and wave action. They are installed after the shoreline has been excavated to the proper grade, ensuring a level base for the wall to be built upon. Filter fabric is secured to the shoreline to prevent existing soil from eroding out from behind the stone. In addition to their functionality, stone seawalls are a beautiful choice for protecting shorelines. The natural look of the stone adds a visually appealing element to the shoreline, blending seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

Rip Rap

Riprap is a type of stone that is commonly used for erosion control and shoreline stabilization. Rip rap has a pleasant, soft appearance and holds together well as it is fractured, not round. It comes in several sizes ranging from 3 inches to 48 inches depending on the clients needs. The smaller ("3”-6”) rip rap is commonly used in small ponds or no wake areas. For river and inland lake shorelines, the medium (6”-12”) rip rap is the ideal choice. Its larger size and weight make it more suitable for resisting the force of moving water. For larger bodies of water such as the Great Lakes, rip rap sizes up to 48” are available.

Boulder

Boulder shorelines serve as great seawalls due to their natural resistance and durability. These walls are constructed using large granite boulders, which provide significant strength and stability against the forces of the water. The boulders are either hand-placed or machine placed in order to ensure the stability of the wall. Granite boulders come in a variety of sizes, making them adaptable to different shoreline settings. Not only do boulder seawalls offer exceptional strength and protection, but also an extremely attractive appearance.

Outcropping

This is a Shore Werks original! For 25 years we have been installing these very attractive and functional seawalls.

Outcropping is a heavy, solid, flat rock that is commonly found in limestone pits in Wisconsin. It is a sought after material for constructing seawalls. Its irregular and rugged nature adds a unique and natural aesthetic to the walls, making it popular choice for both functional and decorative purposes. One of the key advantages of outcropping is its customizability. The thickness and depth of the stone can be made to order, ranging from as thin as 4” to as thick as 18”. Installation of outcropping seawalls is similar to that of other stone seawalls, with careful consideration given to the ability and durability of the structure.

We understand that our clients often have diverse needs when it comes to their waterfront projects. That is why we offer other services such as demolition, excavation, dredging, and more. Contact us to discuss your options.
